What's The Most Nervous You've Ever Been On The First Tee?

One of the coolest things in the world after you graduate from college is feeling nervous over a golf shot. It means you care and finding things to care about is very difficult. Very tricky. Very elusive. I was sitting around earlier doing what I always do and thinking about golf and I started asking myself what first tee I was most nervous on. The answer is the Old Course at St. Andrews, no doubt.

Reminder, it went like this with the loudest FORE call of all time.

Many people are saying you shouldn’t be nervous on that tee because the fairway is 200 yards wide. Those people are what we like to call idiots. You’re nervous because it’s the single oldest, most historic, most iconic first tee in the history of the universe. You’ve seen it hundreds of times, read about it hundreds of times, thought about it hundreds of times. You’ve traveled all this way, waited until the starter calls your group, and now it’s your turn. You’re up. Everyone at St. Andrews is looking at you to see how you handle the most important first tee shot of your life.

For public courses in the U.S., I think Bethpage Black is the most intimidating I’ve seen.

So folks, what’s the most nervous you’ve ever been on a first tee? Where were you? What were the circumstances?
