PhillyVoice – With one of the stranger sagas in Philadelphia sports history coming to a close, the Sixers are left to prepare for what may be the most important offseason in franchise history with the lead decision-making role wide open. The delay was, in part, due to internal and external politics that ownership had to weigh. More than one person who spoke to PhillyVoice on the condition of anonymity suggested Jerry Colangelo tried to intervene on Bryan’s behalf, threatening to interfere with club relationships around the league.

Good. GOD. Just when you think this story couldn’t get any wilder, in comes old man Jerry Colangelo…and totally redeems himself!!! Real noble move to sabotage the Sixers after his son did that already. Bryan Colangelo is a 53-years-old grown ass man and Daddy is still attempting to come to the rescue. Nepotism is a helluva drug.

It’s true that Bryan wouldn’t be in a GM role with the Sixers, or anywhere beforehand, without his father’s help. He’s been riding Dad’s coattails since Phoenix. He came onto the Suns in ’91 and succeeded his father as GM in ’95 for goodnes sake. But it’s tough to not have some sort of sympathy for Bryan. If the facts are actually facts and Bryan had nothing to do with any of the burner accounts (not a chance in fuck he didn’t know, but let’s just assume and play nice), it’s sad, sad downfall from grace. It’s not even like he’s acting like a boy when he should be a man. It’s basically everybody else in his life maliciously coming to his defense when he seemingly didn’t ask. His wife is defending his collars on Twitters and his 78-year-old Daddy is threatening extortion on his behalf. That’s loyalty.

Oh well. Brett Brown is taking over basketball operations on an interim basis. Don’t hate it. Gotta keep the throne warm till the true resurrection happens…
