I Almost Won Two Emmys But I Lost

In case you haven’t heard me talk about it for the millionth time, I worked for NBC Sports Boston before I joined the pirate ship. I was the only girl on a panel of four where we talked about Boston sports for three hours a night, five days a week.

I know, I know. That’s a shit load of talking.

Much to my surprise, our show “Boston Sports Tonight” was nominated for a New England Emmy this year. I was nominated individually, as well.

People always ask me give me shit about why I’m so attached to Boston. One reason is because I genuinely love the city, the show we built and the people I worked with. And apparently there were people out there who thought we were doing a decent enough job to be nominated even when we yelled at each other. (Appreciate ya).

So last Saturday, I paid to have my hair and makeup done. I bought a dress that I’ll probably never wear again (always a bridesmaid, never a bride).  I even had a speech ready where I would talk about loving Boston, being #blessed to be a part of something special and then ending it with “Viva” to make sure people knew I didn’t get fired off the show.

But I lost. So did BST.

Jokes on me. Took the double L.

I lost my individual nomination to my former co-host Tom Curran. I don’t want to say I’m bitter, but I mean just look at this guy.

I won’t mention that I sometimes had to carry him through the show like Lebron carrying the Cavs. Or that I had to highlight his rundown every night so that he would know where he was supposed to be and when. Or that he wears hats like this.

I won’t mention any of it.

But really. It was well deserved. He’s one of the hardest working guys in sports. (Love ya, TC.)

When I originally told Dave that I was nominated, I assumed he’d tell me the Emmys are fake (you know, because of Katie Nolan). Instead, his immediate response was “you won’t win since you left to come to Barstool.”

And since he pointed that out, I’m convinced it was rigged. (No offense to anybody who won though)

I mean this guy definitely had a vote, right? Now I know what Leo felt like all those years.

Luckily, the Celtics on NBC Sports live game coverage won in their category. My former boss let me go on stage with him to accept the award because “you guest-hosted a few Celtics shows and handled the sidelines for a game.”

AKA: I got the obvious pity invite to go up on stage since I clearly spent all day getting ready for an awards show where I would inevitably lose.

But in the end, I was truly honored to be nominated for my first couple of Emmys. It was an awesome night.

And I’m biased, but I think Barstool should be nominated next year. Hell, let’s just shoot straight for the national Emmys this time.

Viva.
