Mets Sign Jose Bautista To Major League Deal, Move One Step Closer To Winning The 2012 World Series

Did The Baseball Maverick do it again or did The Baseball Maverick do it again? I know we give the Wilpons a lot of shit for not investing in a big market team how we would like. But how can you honestly complain with a team that has a roster consisting of All-Stars like Joey Bats, Adrian Gonzalez, Jay Bruce, Asdrubal Cabrera, and NL batting champion Jose Reyes to go along with a devastating 1-2 punch of Mets franchise player David Wright and young stud/LLWS hero/guy who once stood next to Derek Jeter/New Jersey legend Todd Frazier at the hot corner? Oh, all that happened 2011? Shit.

To be honest, I wish this signing happened two years earlier. Or actually two years and one week earlier. Literally the day before this happened.

Once that punch landed and those sunglasses went flying, everyone’s view of Jose Bautista changed forever. Yeah he ate the shit out of that punch. But he also went from the dude that “magically” started hitting a million bombs a season once he went North of the Border and kiiiind of a weirdo for following everyone on Twitter to the guy that got his sunglasses punched off by Rougned Odor. It’s not fair but it’s a fact Jack. Joey Bats still hit 23 bombs last season, but a .203 average is the reason he is no longer in Toronto and got cut by the Braves last week.

So now Bautista is with the Mets. And to be honest, I’m done clowning the Mets for this. Yeah this probably means they have no faith in their minor league system whatsoever. But we already knew where they stood in that regard. The fact that Jose Reyes started a game at third base almost gave me an aneurysm the other night while Adrian Gonzalez quietly settled in as our everyday first basemen during a season where the Mets should have done everything they could do to lock up a few big bats to short term contracts while the young stud pitchers that aren’t trash are still cheap is depressing. At least we don’t have to think about the Mets trading away Bautista in the Kris/Anna Benson trade anymore. Someone fire up the worst I’m Coming Home video ever!

I thought there was a chance that Bautista would find his stroke in Atlanta and haunt the Mets because that would be something that would happen for the Braves. But it didn’t. Now we have Joey Bats here and hopefully he catches fire for a month, a week, or just a game. Again, we are the Mets fans. Beggars can’t be choosers. I’ll take whatever fumes of gas Bautista has left in the tank until he peters out and Sandy moves on to Rafael Palmeiro or Kevin Youkilis. Plus I’m pretty sure the Mets can steal the valor out of the infamous Joey Bats bat toss since he is our player now.

The Team. The Time. The 2018 Mets! ESPN knows what’s up.
