Crazy Ending: Jackson State Won Against Tulane After Tulane Called A Timeout They Didn't Have In A Tie Game With 1 Second Left
I stand firm on the fact that one play never loses you the game in basketball. Throughout the 40 mins on the hardwood, there are plays, may plays - defensive breakdowns, bad shots, miscommunications, stupid fouls, turnovers etc that you wish you could take back, and when added up all make the difference in. a game, but none individually. So this bonehead play of calling a timeout when you don't have one is for sure the moment that stands out the most and everyone remembers because it's the one that goes viral - but no one will mention the 17 turnovers that go with it or the 9 missed free throws throughout the contest. It's how it goes.
What I will say is that this is without a doubt part of an ongoing epidemic in college basketball, that no one ever feels like they no how many timeouts they have left. COUNTLESS times working the table or even just watching a game, you'll see an assistant coach, sometimes multiple assistant coaches sprint to the table to ask or confirm how many they have left. It's always a hilarious scene to me. Now it's undetermined if Tulane's staff reiterated how many they had to their players in the game especially this late but it really is a marvel to watch this situation of calling a timeout when you don't have one unfold so many times in our lives.
