Some Things: Marcus Spears Started Getting Emotional On TV While Watching His Son (Top-5 Recruit) Walk Out For His First Game At Texas

There are times you just have to tip your cap and steal a line from Rico Bosco and say some things are bigger than sports. This is one of those. Marcus Spears Jr. is a hell of a freshman at Texas. He's a freak athlete who can do a little bit of everything, finished last night with 4 blocks and is part of the rotation of a team that I think is a title contender. Yeah, Texas basketball. That's how good I think that team is and how good of a coach I think Sean Miller is.

Now, I can't imagine being Marcus Spears here. Either one really, but as a fellow dad, I can't imagine this feeling. Then again I'm not a former 5-star recruit myself who also was a good basketball player and I don't expect either of my sons to be 5-star recruits. But there is something awesome about seeing your kids, at any age, start to really get into sports. Whether it's their first game or as they get older and start playing real competitive tournaments and things like that, it just hits different.

There's also no one better in these sort of moments than Scott Van Pelt. I know he's a friend of the program and probably has a 100% approval rating, but he's just awesome in recognizing the moment. He knows how to let things breathe and when to chime in.

So if Marcus Spears can cry on TV, he's damn well allowed. I'm not going to argue against a man who could 100% beat my ass with one hit. Plus, seeing your kid be awesome at sports is an elite feeling.
