BRING BACK THE SHERIFF – Dan Patrick Reports The Colts Have ALREADY Called Peyton Manning About Their Open GM Position and Possible Ownership Role

I know I'm likely falling for an old, wily sports media personality's tricks when Dan Patrick makes a very serious declaration about how the Colts HAVE called Peyton Manning about the Colts GM position. Because when you take half a second to think about it, well, no shit, Dan. Of course the Indianapolis Colts would love to have Peyton Manning as their GM. Next thing you'll tell me is that the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team is interested in Brad Stevens.

And as a fan of Indiana sports (most of them), much like I got my hopes up for Brad Stevens every time an IU burner account tweeted the photoshop...

I'm going to get my hopes up for Peyton Manning too. Does Peyton Manning have the slightest interest in putting in the work required to rebuild the Colts as their General Manager? I wouldn't think so. He seems to have a pretty nice, stress-free life as it is. But Peyton Manning is a competitive guy. And you heard what Dan Patrick said. What if Peyton Manning also gets partial ownership of the franchise? Now that's a little more of a prestigious role. That seems a little more worthy of Peyton Manning's time. That's something I can sit here and do the mental gymnastics needed to convince myself could actually happen.

The only thing that could possibly give me pause is the existence of Arch Manning. Peyton Manning wouldn't be so biased as to build his NFL franchise around his underachieving nephew, would he? Unless he develops into a QB who's truly worthy of being built around. But based on what we've seen from Arch so far, he sure doesn't seem like it. But do you know who might be worthy? And by "might be worthy", I mean he's literally done nothing yet, so we'd be FOOLISH to rule out that he might be great a decade from now – Peyton Manning's son.

Imagine a world where Colts GM/Owner Peyton Manning builds a super-mega dynasty in Indianapolis around his very own son. A Colts fan can dream. You gotta let Colts fans dream. We haven't been able to since Andrew Luck retired mid-preseason. Until this morning, Chris Ballard has been holding dreams hostage. It had reached the point where I thought Ballard must have had some dirt on the Irsay family, and that Chris Ballard would be a staple in my life as Colts GM until the day one of us died.

But not anymore. The bad man is gone. If Chris Ballard does have dirt on the Irsay family… well, I suppose it will make for a hell of a documentary someday. But that's a story for a later date. You got this Irsay sisters. Make Peyton Manning an offer he can't refuse. M.I.G.A. – Make Indianapolis Great Again.

P.S. It doesn't have to be your own son either, Peyton. Drafting any competent quarterback will do. Personally, I think the Colts would be a delightful team to rebuild. You've got some assets you can trade away. The Colts get great fan support. And you're coming off the heels of one of the most nothing GM's in sports history. There's nowhere to go but up. At least from the QB position.
