Bad to Worse: Texas Will Now Reportedly Be Without Colin Simmons for 3-4 Weeks Due to a High Ankle Sprain
Things might be unraveling for Texas in a hurry. The offense can't score, the Longhorns are already on the brink of College Football Playoff elimination and now their best defender and likely top five pick in the 2027 NFL Draft is out for a month with a high ankle sprain.
I think there's a real chance we've seen Colin Simmons play his last snap at Texas. If he misses the next four games — vs Ole Miss, vs Mississippi State, at Missouri and at LSU — and the Horns drop two of them and are totally out of the CFP discussion, why risk worsening an injury when your draft position can only get worse? Maybe Texas pulls out of this tailspin, rattles off four in a row to right the ship and then Simmons comes back and everything is great. But it seems like this could just as easily be a death knell for a season that had national championship aspirations just a month ago.
What a brutal first half of the season for Steve Sarkisian and Co. Simmons is out, your quarterback can't throw and now you're getting the backup ready in case you have to bench the guy that was supposed to be a program savior. Tough times in Austin.
