In Another Hilarious Move, MLB Announces Their Gold Glove Winners Right In The Middle Of Sunday Night Football
My goodness, they've done it again. If you think you're getting deja vu about MLB dropping their Gold Glove awards in the middle of Sunday Night football, it's because you are. I wrote this blog 4 years ago about this same exact thing, how is this a mistake they keep on making? I mean, I literally already wrote this blog 4 years ago, and now they're running the same play back again. It's pretty wild that everyone on twitter knows this is a dumb move but the people in suits making the decisions can't see that. The fact that we were less than 24 hours removed from one of the best World Series finales we've ever seen and baseball is already trying to move on from it and announce these winners is crazy. Let the fans marinate on this! They want to soak it all in still, but not the big wigs upstairs who think this is the perfect time to release these names.
I wrote it in 2021, but why not schedule something for Tuesday evening? Going up against football will never go in your favor, it's a losing battle. Yet Rob Manfred or whoever it is at Rawlings who makes this call can't see that. MLB does have an awards night now too, just do it then? No one even knew it was happening, I saw tweets start to fly out and thought someone was bringing back old announcements. But nope, in the middle of Sam Darnold throwing darts I found out that Ty France was collecting some hardware, I couldn't believe my eyes. It's a perfect baseball move, it totally encapsulates how little awareness this league has. I think I saw that there was a show on ESPN announcing the winners? That's news to me. I follow the game very closely and had literally no idea, how do they expect people to tune in if no one knows it's on? And again, smack dab in the middle of SNF? No one is switching from that to see who the Gold Glove winner at third in the NL is, be smarter.
The only thing more insane than the timing for this yet again was that Ernie Clement didn't win. I saw that man perform miracles with his glove this season while watching the Jays clown the O's, that guy deserved GG. Tough few days for him, but he was robbed. So instead of a nice ceremony honoring guys like Stephen Kwan for winning his fourth straight Gold Glove or Bobby Witt for winning back-to-back awards, we got to find out via a tweet mid TD pass. Good stuff baseball, never change.
