Building A Whole Hog Pit In Your Backyard Is So Easy That Everyone Should Do It

I'm getting ready to cook a hog in the next couple of weeks, but the issue is that most people don't have anything large enough to cook an entire pig on. I mean, sure, if you have a large enough smoker then maybe you'd be able to quarter up a little pig and toss it on there. But there's something special about cooking the animal all together at once. Something magical happens when all of those muscles and fat and juices come together to create one bite that completely rocks your world.

It turns out, the only thing you need to cook an entire pig is to just take a trip to your nearest home improvement store. Load your car up with a bunch of cinderblocks, grab a few pieces of rebar, break out the angle grinder, and stack it all together. Really, the trickiest part about building a whole hog pit in your backyard is convincing your wife to let you do it. Once you clear that hurdle, it takes maybe a couple hours of your time between getting all the equipment and putting it together.

Now actually cooking the whole hog is another process. One that'll take at least 12 hours of your time. But we'll talk about all that later in another video.
