LSU AD Scott Woodward Has Now Hired the Coaches With the Two Largest Buyouts in College Football History
I'd like to be the first to congratulate whoever ends up being the next head football coach at Louisiana State, not just for getting one of the best jobs in college football but also for the fact you will be working for the man who hired the coaches with the two largest buyouts in the history of the sport.
Jimbo Fisher got an extension that upped his buyout after Scott Woodward left Texas A&M for LSU, but Woodward was responsible for hiring him — a hire which failed spectacularly — and then got to Baton Rouge and made a very similar hire in Brian Kelly, except Kelly was a much worse fit and had never won a national title. The two coaches combined for zero conference championships, zero College Football Playoff appearances and $129 million in buyouts.
It seems at this point like LSU is allowing Woodward to make its next hire, so whoever gets that job is stepping into truly the best situation any coach could ever ask for. You're getting what might be the best job in the country in a fertile recruiting area where every kid in your state dreams of going to your school, you're taking over a program where three of the last four head coaches have won national championships and if somehow everything goes up in smoke, your contract is being handed out by the Buyout King. Jobs do not get any better than this.
I understand there are coaches in great situations right now who don't want to leave, but anyone who gets a call from Woodward should say yes before he finishes his sentence if they know what's good for them.
