Brian Kelly Is Out at LSU and This Coaching Carousel Just Went NUCLEAR

Brian Kelly entered his fourth season at LSU with national championship expectations. After a 5-3 start, he won't even be in Baton Rouge to see the end of it.

We've been talking about how insane this year's coaching carousel was going to be with Florida and Penn State coming open and others looming, but LSU just came in and blew the whole thing up by firing Kelly and opening up one of the two orthree best jobs in college football. This offseason is going to be unlike anything we've ever seen before.

It would stand to reason that this wouldn't be the year to get into the coaching search business, but if you're LSU, you can do whatever you want. There aren't many jobs that can make Florida and Penn State look like also-rans, but this is one of them. Lane Kiffin's decision on what he's going to do going forward just got a lot more interesting and his annual salary at whatever school he chooses to coach at just got a bit larger.

As for Kelly, this was just never going to work. College football is a sport where fit matters more than pretty much any other and you would be hard-pressed to find a worse fit for Baton Rouge, La., than Brian Kelly. This experiment was doomed from the time he walked onto the basketball court and said how excited he and his fa-muh-lee were to be there. That carpet bagging yankee doesn't have the slightest clue what it takes to win in the SEC.

It simply can't be overstated how nuts this coaching cycle is going to be. We have the aforementioned elite jobs already open along with Arkansas, Oklahoma State and several others. Auburn, Florida State and Wisconsin may be coming open soon. If Kiffin decides to take one of these jobs, Ole Miss becomes one of the best on the board. It's going to be absolute cinema.

Enjoy that buyout, Brian.
