Year 3 Of Victor Wembanyama Just Started And He's Already Made NBA History

There aren't many things that can steal even the smallest bit of thunder from a football Sunday, but of the things that can, I'd say Victor Wembanyama is one of them. We're at the point right now where I may as well just pencil in a Wemby blog every single time the Spurs play, because every single time the Spurs play he does something that we've never seen before.

Entering Year 3, I think any basketball fan couldn't wait to see what type of dominance Wemby was about to unleash on the rest of the NBA. We heard all offseason about the work he put in, and since the very first second of the season, it's been nothing but another mind bending play/moment after another.

Today's example? Ho hum. No big deal, just stuff like this

Now, to be fair, I'm pretty sure Wilt did this type of shit back in his day, the NBA just didn't record blocks at that time. But in terms of recorded history, Wemby became the first ever to pull off 100 points and 18 blocks in the first three games of the season. How would Year 3 Wemby look, we wondered? It's already giving us shit we've never seen before. I'll remind you, Wemby turns 22 in January.

Last year, Wemby was producing at a 1st Team All NBA/DPOY level, and had he finished the year he easily would have been top 5 in MVP as well. Is it a stretch to say all of that is not even a question here in Year 3? As long as he hits the 65-game limit, Wemby is going to clean up. While MVP may be aggressive, is top 3 in voting? You're definitely watching a 1st Team All NBA/DPOY, that's a given. He would have already had both last year. I can't stress this enough in every Wemby blog, he is only 21-22 years old. Look at how the development has already gone. Look at what he's doing on the floor every single night with ease. Now imagine him in 3-5 years?

Here's the thing too. The big question for Wemby was if he could lead the Spurs to wins. All the individual stuff is awesome, but at some point the Spurs were going to have to start stacking Ws. Well, guess what? The Spurs sit atop the Western Conference at 3-0. Yeah, it's only been the first week, so what? We all wanted to see Wemby start to win, and he's started the season by winning.

So if we're looking at a year in which the Spurs can comfortably make the playoffs? Wemby is going to get serious MVP consideration and it'll be well deserved.
