Finally, Some Accountability: The SEC Reviewed 11 Complaints From The Georgia/Auburn Disaster, Reportedly Suspended The Ref For The Rest Of The Season

[Source] - The Southeastern Conference has suspended longtime referee Ken Williamson for the remainder of the season in the wake of his crew's performance in Georgia's 20-10 victory at Auburn on Oct. 11, sources confirmed to ESPN on Thursday.

Williamson, who was the crew chief in that game, told SEC officials prior to the opening game that he was going to retire after this season, sources said.

Hell yes. I've long said we need more accountability from refs besides not getting assigned a great postseason game. That's not enough to make up for calls that lead to a disaster. We all remember this:

Not only that but the final 2 minutes of game time in the first half took well over 30 minutes of real time. That can't happen. Now, I actually think Arnold fumbled. Kirby Smart has claimed that he was saying they were clapping, not that he was clapping. Both are fine, whatever, but anyone who watched that game knows it was a shitshow from start to finish. Is a full season suspension a lot? Yeah, could probably do less, but you need to start finding a way to hold refs accountable.

Uhh, Terry, quarterbacks get benched for throwing a bunch of picks. Look at the Dolphins. Look at a lot of teams where it ends up being a mess from that spot. The point is refs need to be more accountable. They should have to answer questions to a bunch of people, not a pool reporter. Terry McAuley is trying to bring up how players don't get benched, they sit there and answer every question. Refs don't have to do that and they have an impact on the game.

You obviously can't suspend every ref for the entire season after a bad game. But, you can suspend them a game or two. This goes for every sport. I don't think the refs made Auburn lose this game, but it was a horrific game to watch because of the refs. That is something that can't happen. You have to have some control of the game and 11 complaints will do that to a ref.
