Packers Kicker Lucas Havrisik Was Ready To Dive Into Substitute Teaching Until Green Bay GM Brian Gutekunst Gave Him a Call - Proceeds To Make All 5 Kicks On Sunday To Help Get The Win

Football kickers are a fascinating bunch. An elite kicker can be found sitting on their couch on any given Sunday. By now you know the story of Brandon Aubrey who was doing exactly that, watching a game with his wife, when she pretty much called him out saying he could do what those guys on TV were failing at. The former soccer player dedicated the next few years to working his ass off to become a placekicker, and six years later he's the best one in the sport. All because his wife challenged him. Lucas Havrisik may not be a Brandon Aubrey in the making, but the fact that this dude was actively thinking about going into substitute teaching is fucking nuts.

Nervous? Havrisik was netting balls from 63 yards in warmups.

He went onto make all five kicks in the game, including field goals from 43 and 39. The second one iced the game for Green Bay and secured their win over Cincy. Not bad for a dude who was thinking about getting a job out in the real world.

The Packers special teams are typically an abomination. Brandon McManus has been the one constant bright spot since coming over to Green Bay. Taking him out of the equation was a giant red flag yesterday, but Havrisik stepped in and didn't miss a beat.

It really got me thinking how there's no other position in sports where the average joe can just decide they want to become a pro and there's actually a chance of it happening. And let me be clear, by "a chance" I still mean microscopic and by "average joe" I mean a guy with a kicking background who has never played football before. Compared to other sports, you can't just become a regular ol' NBA basketball player by working hard at it. Baseball? No fucking shot. Any other NFL position? Nope. I suppose an EBUG in hockey is the only comparison, but that's different because it's meant for a backup situation. I'm more talking becoming a successful starting NFL kicker. If you have a solid soccer background and train hard enough you too could end up with the game ball after helping the Green Bay Packers win.

If I have a son he's absolutely training his leg from an early age along with sharpening his mental strength. While that sounds like a lottery ticket more than anything, we've seen that it's a possibility if you do it right. That's the only shot this moron develops a pro athlete for a kid.
