It Appears Dillon Gabriel May Not Be The Guy As The Browns Score A Grand Total Of Zero Touchdowns Against The Steelers

I'll admit it: I was excited for about 15 minutes of real time during last week's Browns game and thought that maybe, MAYBE, Dillion Gabriel could be the guy. But then when you really think about it, he was asked to do very little in terms of throwing the ball down field. So despite throwing for two touchdowns and zero turnovers (a rare feat for a Browns quarterback), the jury was still out.

And now I can confidently say, after watching this game with pen and paper while taking meticulous notes, the jury has come back with a verdict. Dillion Gabriel is NOT the guy. 25 of 52 for 221 yards and 0 touchdowns. That's not just 0 touchdowns for Dillion Gabriel. That's 0 touchdowns for the entire team. But that's not even the worst stat. I'm still sitting here trying to figure out how Gabriel threw the ball 52 times and only had 221 yards. 4.3 yards per pass? How is that even possible? And how is it possible to make this bad of a decision?

He consistently throw bad, soft passes that quite literally got our recievers and tight ends injured over the middle. I thought this guy analyzed it well:

He is exactly who he thought he was. And I wish I could say things like "give him more time" or "he'll develop", but my gut is right on this one and it's been right since the day we drafted him.

And then I doubled-down on it afterwards:

This isn't meaning to be some Dillion Gabriel bashing blog but I just don't understand how this is the guy we snuck up out of nowhere and drafted before anyone else had him projected? It made no sense at the time and it makes no sense today. Because it's just a fact that an undersized QB with a subpar arm is not going to be the savior of the franchise. And while I'm not sure if Sheduer will be either, I think we need to find out sooner or later.

We've got the Dolphins at home next week. Maybe give Gabriel one last chance to beat a bad team? If not, it could be his funeral in New England and then we let Sheduer spin for the Jets game. (I'm still not sure we don't see Deshaun again before this is all said and done)

**Congrats to the Browns on extending their streak of having not won a regular season game in Cleveland since 2003. That's now 22 losses in a row.
