We Are Heading Into One Of The Best Sports Weekends Of The Year

We all know the go-to's for best sports weekends of the year: first week of March Madness, Masters Weekend, NFL Wild Card Weekend. But I think this weekend deserves to be right there with them.

MLB

Between the stakes and pitching matchups, having one of these games each night is pretty great. Starting tonight, you're getting Tarik Skubal against the Mariners in a do-or-die game. If you love pitching, this should be ideal.

Then tomorrow, we get another Game 5 but with the Cubs and Brewers. I think this could be the opposite situation where the hitting takes over in this one. They haven't announced starters yet but I'm guessing both teams start with an opener and then the Cubs go with Shota Imanaga and Colin Rea while the Brewers get bulk innings from Jacob Misiorowski. But watch, I'll be totally wrong and this game ends up being a big pitcher's duel while Skubal and George Kirby get rocked.

On Sunday night, the ALCS starts with either the Tigers or Mariners facing the Blue Jays. I know most people (by far) will be watching the Lions/Chiefs that night, but this game will still be fun for even casual baseball fans to flip over during commercials and halftime.

College Football

I'm not going to pretend that I know anything about College Football. I do love the NFL and do root for a horrific team in the Jets so one game really stood out to me in Indiana Vs. Oregon. Both are Top 10 teams and each have QB's that any shithole NFL team should be looking at in Dante Moore and Fernando Mendoza.

The guys here in socials were telling me this is "absolutely NOT an apple picking Saturday". You have ranked teams playing each other in Alabama/Missouri and Ohio State/Illinois (both play at Noon).

NFL

This is a decent slate this week. Lions/Chiefs on Sunday night is clearly the best matchup but Seahawks/Jags and 49ers/Bucs are both interesting. Week 6 always feels like when we start to really figure out if certain teams should be taken seriously. This year that's the Jags, Pats, Cowboys, Broncos and maybe even the Chargers. All play Sunday.

But from a get on the couch and don't move all day except go to the bathroom or pick up food that was delivered, this Sunday is elite. You're getting my horrific Jets taking on the Broncos in England at 9:30 AM and then football all day. If you're not sitting in your own filth all day, you're doing NFL Sunday wrong.

NHL

If you're in NYC and want to leave the house this weekend for some unknown reason, you do have the greatest goal scorer ever playing the Islanders on Saturday night and the Rangers on Sunday. For some bizarre reason, the NHL has no scheduled games at all tonight. Seems odd to me, but you are still getting a ton of games tomorrow.

This isn't even counting UFC, WNBA Finals, World Cup Qualifiers, NBA Pre-Season and I'm sure other stuff as well.

Having hobbies and things you are interested in is pretty great. Life can be mundane and looking forward to stuff is fantastic. I'm sure some people who don't like sports could pass judgement and say we are "wasting" a Fall weekend. I don't see it that way at all. If you're doing something you enjoy, then how is that a waste?

Throwing on the TV, not spending any money and having a great time is far from a waste. That sounds perfect to me.
