WATCH: The First Trailer For The Throne's Spinoff 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'
A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.
This looks kinda interesting!
While I haven't loved House of the Dragon, it's delivered exactly what I wanted out of it. Essentially the same vibe as the series but in a different era. This, however, looks like a totally different vibe. Funnier, quicker and a lot less bleak.
I've read all the main book series but I never actually got around to the Tales of Dunk and the Egg. Based on the trailer, it looks like a basic big guy/little kid adventure combo like Mando. I'm down for that.
As for the backend, the showrunner is Ira Parker. He was a co-producer on House of the Dragon and also produced a few smaller shows. Half the episodes this season were directed by Owen Harris (3 eps of Black Mirror, Troy: Fall of a City) and hald went to Sarah Adina Smith (The Drop, 1 ep of Legion). Not a crew that I would say excites me a ton, but it's some new blood.
Mostly unknown former rugby player Peter Claffey plays the lead role of Ser Duncan and I only know some of the supporting cast members. Finn Bennett, who plays one of the Targaryens, was one of the few bright spots of 'True Detective: Night Country'. Daniel Ings got a lot of screen time in the trailer and I thought he was pretty good in 'The Gentlemen' series. Lastley, I actually do like Sam Spruell quite a bit. He has such a perfect English face and I really enjoyed him in 'Legend', 'Fargo' and 'The Outlaw King'.
It's kind of tough to tell quality or if this tonal shift will work but I appreciate them trying. However, i understand hesitation from anyone who is not into that…
