Matthew McConaughey Has Discussed Returning To 'TRUE DETECTIVE' Alongside Woody Harrelson

In a recent interview with NME, Matthew McConaughey confirmed that he's "keen on the idea" of returning to 'True Detective' alongside Woody Harrelson and there's currently excitement about that; all it would take to get him back is apparently a good script....

True Detective series creator Nic Pizzolatto revealed in May that he’s discussed a potential idea with you that would reunite your O.G. character Rust Cohle and Woody Harrelson’s Marty Hart. Tempted?

“There’s excitement, yes, but I haven’t seen a script yet. When I originally read True Detective, everything that came out of Rust Cohle’s mouth was white-hot. The script was on fire so the execution [of a sequel] must go another step. We’re keen on the idea but it’s nothing more than an idea. If Nic puts something on paper that Woody and I think is good enough, it wouldn’t even be a choice. We would look at it and go, ‘it must happen’. It’s gotta be damn good though because we set a pretty good precedent!”

This comes a few months after Pizzolatto appeared on the 'Nothing Left Unsaid' podcast and revealed that he had "another story" for Rust and Marty in his head that he'd discussed with the guys.

Personally I couldn't be more split on this. I think the first season of 'True Detective' is as perfect as television gets from start-to-finish, and it would be nearly impossible to live up to that, let alone outdo it. Adding a second season onto that story may just be the final nail in the 'True Detective' coffin especially after the way the last few seasons have been received. At some point you gotta stop chasing the dragon. That being said - it's a liiiiiiittle tempting when you tell me we could have more time with McConaughey as Cohle and Harrelson as Hart. I'd argue they had one of the most compelling on-screen relationships of all time and if the revival were even 50% as good as the original, it'd still probably be the best thing on TV. I lean "leave it alone" but I'm painfully curious about the potential here.
