Netflix Dropped The First Trailer For Season 2 Of Their "Starting 5" Series And All Signs Point To Another Must Watch Season
There are a lot of reasons to be excited that the NBA season is on the horizon. Don't let the haters and losers, of which there are many, tell you otherwise. Those people are dug into their hardo stance when it comes to the sport of basketball and the NBA, and frankly, they couldn't be further from the truth. But that's a different topic for a different blog.
Aside from all the on the court reasons this upcoming season is set up to be another awesome 10ish months of basketball, the return of the NBA season also brings us Season 2 of Netflix's "Starting 5" documentary series. As a reminder, this season followed Jaylen Brown, SGA, KD, James Harden, and Tyrese Haliburton (backend limits my image at the top of the blog at 4 people), all of which had very interesting 2024-25 NBA seasons. Jaylen Brown dealt with injuries and the whole journey of repeating as champions (with a disastrous ending), SGA had one of the best individual guard seasons in NBA history, capping it off with a title and Finals MVP, both KD and Harden served the role as the aging legends whose teams were closer to dumpster fires than contenders, and of course Haliburton had that magical playoff run that unfortunately also ended in disaster in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
The point is, the storylines for each of those guys are awesome, and I didn't even need to see a single frame of this upcoming season to know we were in for another doozy.
Fortunately, Netflix dropped its first trailer for Season 2, and as expected, it appears to be another must-watch season
Let's fucking go! While obviously I have my own interests in the Jaylen Brown storyline, based on that trailer, it looks like each player's storyline will be worth it. In Season 1, people killed Sabonis or Tatum for being "boring" or whatever, but to me, that just felt like normal internet hating rather than anything else. But this group? All of these dudes are interesting, all have unique personalities, and they all then had really intriguing seasons.
It also doesn't hurt that Netflix is 2 for 2 when it comes to choosing and then following the eventual champ. Season 1 brought us Tatum's journey to the top of the mountain, and this year we get SGA's. It's some crazy luck that they also chose the star player of the team SGA played in the Finals, and to me, that's an added element that should make Season 2 even better. We get to see both sides. The highest of highs and lowest of lows for each player being followed. If that's not compelling television, nothing is.
Now that we have this trailer and the premiere is a few weeks away, the next shoe to drop is the lineup for Season 3. A few weeks ago, I put together the list of players I'd like to see based on their personalities as well as the expectations for their respective teams
Time will tell how many of those guys get the nod, but my guess is a few of them if we base things on what we've seen in the first two seasons of this series.
This may be tough for Celts and Pacers fans given how those storylines ended, but I still can't wait until the 16th. At least I can always go back and watch 2024 highlights when the Jaylen Brown parts make me sad, so there's that.
