There's No Reason Ties Should Exist In The NFL
Honestly I don't even think I need to write any words in this blog. I don't need to present an argument. It'd be like titling a blog "grass is green" or "the sun rises" or "Riggs looked ridiculous in that brown vest from over the weekend", it really just speaks for itself.
Just to expand a bit- Ties happening in the NFL is absolute nonsense. There's really no valid reason for it to happen. They already changed the rule so each team gets a possession in OT. Great. So the obvious thing to do is if the score is tied as the clock runs out, you go to college rules and put the ball on the 25 yard line and let them battle it out that way. It's so simple.
You know what else sucked about last night? Matt LaFleur was playing for the tie. He had zero urgency to win the game. He'd rather go for the tie than take the lead and chance letting the Cowboys put together some miraculous last second win. It's just bozo football. The whole thing sucked.
I'm not even sure what Goodell's reasoning in favor of tie games would be. Hockey goes to 3 on 3 and then a shootout. Baseball obviously goes to extras. NBA will play 5 minute OTs til the cows come home. But the NFL won't adopt college rules, or a hybrid of the current format? That's just being stubborn for the sake of being stubborn. Oh and I swear to god if I hear something about "player safety" I will burst a blood vessel. The way the NFL loves to say shit about "player safety" while they make teams play on Thursdays, add more games, etc...just spare me. The NFL cares about player safety the same way Riggs looked good in that brown vest from over the weekend.
Hopefully the owners vote to change the ridiculousness of a tie in the offseason. Do I have faith they will? Absolutely not. But hopefully some common sense shines through and we never have a tie again.
