Disaster: US Plays Some Of The Worst Golf The Ryder Cup Has Seen, Can't Make A Putt And Gets Destroyed 3-1 In The Morning Session

There's no sugarcoating this, there's no hiding what happened. It was dogshit. It was bad. It was a disaster. It was some of the worst golf we've ever seen at the Ryder Cup considering this is at home in a must-win event. They pissed down their leg, Russell Henley most notably, and blew basically everything. You sent out JT/Bryson first for momentum and it worked for exactly 1 hole. The first hole, the hole they won and then Rahm/Hatton broke out two absurd shots, including this one that flipped the match:

It didn't matter where you looked, the US was bad. It made no sense to have Morikawa/English paired up together and it showed. There's a reason they lost 5 and 4, it was the worst pairing we could have put out there. I don't know why Cam Young wasn't out there. That decision made absolutely no sense since everyone knew this pairing was going to lose.

Let's try to break this into matches, because it's infuriating what happened:

Hatton/Rahm beat Thomas/Bryson 4 and 3

Like I said the first hole was great. We won that hole thanks to Bryson's drive and putt. It seemed like things would be right and then it all fell apart. JT was bad, real bad. Couldn't make a putt to save his life, didn't really help with approach shots, had to hit a volunteer on a par-5 to help save the ball.

Hatton and Rahm were nails. They didn't care about the crowd or going down early. Instead, they buried putts, scrambled to save holes early and took advantage of a garbage JT. This was the match you had to halve or get a point. Keegan sent out JT/Bryson for that, as the second best pairing we had. Instead they got destroyed, especially late. I don't know when you put JT back out there, especially with the way he played this morning.

Rory/Fleetwood beat Morikawa/English 5 and 4

Never again. Never play Morikawa/English together ever again. It's trash, it's bad, it's dumb. That's all I have. An ass kicking because we played the 132nd optimal pairing out of 132 options.

Aberg/Fitzpatrick beat Scottie/Henley 5 and 3

Demote Henley. As bad as JT was, I don't know if we've seen a worse performance ever in the Ryder Cup than what Russell Henley did today. He's supposed to be out there for putting, left every putt short. He is 30 yards short off the tee, which would be fine if he was hitting fairways. The Scottie/Tiger comparison has never been more accurate since Tiger got his ass handed to him in Ryder Cups with bad partners. That happened here. Henley needs to be on the range and probably a mini golf course until Sunday. Bench him. He was supposed to be a killer for the Ryder Cup team and the only thing he killed was hope for us. You had Aberg walking in putts, Fitzpatrick looking like a top-4 player in the world and we were never in this one. Embarrassing from Henley.

Cantlay/Xander beat MacIntyre/Hovland 2-up

Well, they tried to blow it:

Once 3-up, looking like an easy victory came down to 18. And lucky it was 1-up going into 18 because Cantlay missed a putt on 17 by about 2 rotations before Bobby MacIntyre pushed his putt to tie the hole. Whatever, a cheap win is still a win and that's the point we desperately needed. I'm surprised they are sitting Xander in the afternoon session.

They know how to play with each other and I thought they may have to go all 5 rounds. That was just such a massive point. You can't blow it on 18, you can't blow a 3-up lead to get swept. The full point there was so big and was sealed with the Xander dart on 18.

The only spinzone is we were up 3-1 in 2018 and got smoked. Just reverse that and don't suck. All I know is this was as big of a disaster of a start as you could ask for. Not even competitive in 3 of the pairings and now you need to figure out who you're playing and scramble to get back into this. Oh and hit the putting green. That was the single worst display of putting I've seen in golf at any level. Embarrassing.
