Apparently Kenan Thompson Is Producing A "Macho Man" Randy Savage Biopic

Deadline- Artists for Artists, the production company of Kenan Thompson and Johnny Ryan Jr., is developing a feature biopic on iconic wrestler “Macho Man” Randy Savage, we can tell you first.

Thompson and Ryan Jr. come to the project, titled Macho, as lifelong fans of Savage — Thompson, having worked with Savage on a Nickelodeon promo all the way back in 1999. The project stems from a completed script by Savage’s brother Lanny Poffo — who died in February 2023 — and Eric Shapiro.

What a Mad Libs ass headline we've got here: a "Macho Man" Randy Savage biopic is currently in the works from....Kenan Thompson! Well - Kenan Thompson's production company is developing it, maybe not Kenan himself; I don't think Kel is playing Randy, if that's what you were picturing (although that would be great).

Apparently the script was written by Savage's real life brother, the late "Leaping" Lanny Poffo (aka The Genius), and a screenwriter named Eric Shapiro who has a bunch of short film credits on his IMDb - which is a liiiittle worrisome to me. Obviously Lanny knew his brother more than almost everyone, but it makes me nervous having someone that close to the subject involved. I always go back to 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and Sacha Baron Cohen claiming Brian May had a heavy hand in PG-fying what should've been an insanely raunchy/edgy movie, and that's kinda my fear with this. I don't want the polished version of the Randy Savage story. I want to see the dark times and all.

My other trepidation comes from the fact that Macho Man feels un-castable. I don't think there's an actor on earth I could imagine playing him without it feeling like a cheap impression. I felt the same way about the Hulk Hogan biopics that were in the works with Chris Hemsworth and Ben Affleck supposedly cast as the Hulkster.

We'll see, though - this is one of those productions I bet will fizzle out in a few months.
