If The Sixers Ever Have Any Hope Of Winning A Championship, It's Going To Be In The Return Of The Iverson Uniform

You guys remember the movie, "Like Mike"? It was truly one of the finest masterpieces of the early 21st century. In case you're a piece of uncultured swine, the story follows a young Calvin Cambridge (played magnificently by Lil' Bow Wow) who comes across a pair of sneakers which used to be owned by Michael Jordan. The shoes magically possess the power of Michael Jordan, so Calvin turns into the greatest basketball player on the planet once he puts them on. He's a child who gets an NBA contract and turns a dog shit team into the best team in the league. It's like Freaky Friday meets Rookie of the Year meets the greatest fucking movie you've ever watched.

All of that is to say that hopefully there's a chance that life could imitate art here. Hopefully there's a chance that Like Mike was rooted in reality. And hopefully these black Sixers uniforms possess the power of Allen Iverson. Once the current Sixers throw that uniform on, they'll stop being the biggest group of underachieving losers in the city. Their game will actually start to elevate as the games get more important, instead of the constant meltdown in the playoffs we've come to expect out of them.

Similar to Like Mike, these uniforms are one of the finest products to come from the early 21st century. They conjure up feelings of hopefulness and pride as Sixers fans. A time when this team exceeded expectations instead of faltering. Sure, they never finished the job by winning a championship in them. But that run with AI was still special. It would be a total shame if this current Sixers team took something we've all yearned to have back in our lives again, and soiled it with another year of miserable basketball like last year. It would be a total shame if this photoshoot was the first and only time that all 3 of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George all wore that uniform at the same time.

The pressure is on. The Sixers have an era to live up to now. They need to channel that 2001 team, and play with that level of hunger and intensity. No taking days off. No just trying to make it through the regular season to finally turn it on for the playoffs. It's time to see if this team is finally capable of playing with a little fire in their heart. Nothing has been able to light that fire just yet, but maybe these uniforms can.
