Lane Kiffin Has A Full Blown Quarterback Dilemma On His Hands.....

Lane Kiffin has A LOT to think about this week!

Starting QB Austin Simmons sprained his ankle in the 4th quarter against Kentucky 2 weeks ago causing backup QB Trinidad Chambliss to start against Arkansas Saturday.

And Chambliss went absolutely NUCLEAR in the Rebel 41-35 victory! The former D2 national champion (Ferris State) threw for a whopping 353 yards with a TD pass and ran for it 62 yards adding 2 TDs on the ground. Chambliss also had ZERO turnovers which has been a problem for Simmons early in the season (4 INTs).

Simmons did come off the bench when Chambliss got dinged up to throw a TD himself but was still visibly limping.

Make no mistake about it. Austin Simmons is the future of the Rebels program at QB. He is only a sophomore and the arm talent is staggering. He had some growing pains the 1st 2 weeks but that is expected for a 20 year old making his 1st career starts. (Chambliss is a senior)

Despite the 4 INTs, Simmons still did a damn good job leading the Rebels back from a 10-0 deficit in 1st half at Kentucky and in the blow out vs. Georgia State week 1.

So what does Lane Kiffin do this week as the Rebs get ready to host a feisty Tulane bunch?!?!? Lane said that Simmons is the starting QB yesterday but who the hell knows what that actually means?

The Rebs have Tulane & a showdown with LSU the next 2 weeks before the bye week.

Lane Kiffin knows about 1000 times more than I do about his QBs and football in general but here are my two cents. The Rebs should roll with Chambliss on Saturday against Tulane. If he looks good in a win, run it back with Chambliss against LSU.

It cannot be emphasized enough how much Chambliss running ability opens up the Ole Miss offense. Having a running QB in modern college football is a cheat code.

This will give Simmons 2 more weeks to fully heal his sprained ankle too. And the bye week is the perfect time to evaluate the situation…..
