The Mets Are Making The Playoffs Despite What Frank The Tank Says

The 2025 New York Mets are from a perfect team. They started off 45-24 and had a 5.5 game lead in the NL East. Griffin Canning blew his Achilles and other than David Peterson, the starting pitchers stopped being able to even get to the 6th inning. They've since gone 28-40. It's been bad. I get it.

Having said all of that, the Mets still have a 4 game lead over the Cincinnati Reds for the last Wild Card spot as we head into September. But if you look at Frank The Tank's tweets, you'd think the Mets were the Rockies.

These were just a few from yesterday. Sadly, his glasses didn't survive the Sunday loss to the Marlins.

But, let's bring some reality into the conversation. Why did the Mets season fall apart? As I mentioned earlier, the starting pitching stopped being able to go deep into games. The Mets might have fixed that problem by calling up Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong. McLean has given the Mets 15 innings in his last two starts and has looked sensational. He's been so good, I think he's going to be starting playoff games. Tong didn't have the same command in his debut but had incredible stuff including a knockout curveball.

The other reason why I think the Mets get to October is the offense has been explosive in August. As a team, they batted .285/.361/.505 for the month. It took awhile for this lineup to click into gear but Francisco Lindor seems out of his early season slump (he had 40 hits in August) and Juan Soto had 10 homers/10 steals last month alone.

The September schedule for the Mets is not easy. 19 of the 25 games this month are against teams with winning records. But the Reds schedule is tough too (they play 16 games against teams with winning records). It's not like they have a cakewalk.

I get that Frank's always going to be negative. I've now worked with the guy in the same office for over three years. I've seen the rants (and sometimes even blood) in real time. I have zero issue if he trashes the team when they stink. He was right to go after them in 2023 when they lost 87 games. That team was dismal to watch and deserved being shit on.

But this Mets team is different. I'm not saying they are going to win the World Series. But this is a team fighting to get into the playoffs. The Mets don't get this opportunity every year. It should be fun, especially when you are the team that others are chasing.  On the other hand, Frank is predicting the Mets will be no-hit during every first inning. Despite, the catchphrase Frank is wrong a lot. For example, I don't see the Mets disbanding next year.

If I'm a neutral observer, this is funny shit. But at some point, he's just trashing my team. I'm saying the Mets make the playoffs. Frank clearly disagrees.

One of us will be right.
