Penn State Hockey Can't Miss Right Now: Team Will Play Outdoor Game At Beaver Stadium This Season
Penn State hockey can't miss right now. It started this summer when the top prospect since Connor McDavid, Gavin McKenna, announced he will be leaving the CHL to take his talents to Penn State. Then today, we were hit with this massive announcement...The Nittany Lions are headed outdoors to Beaver Stadium for a game on January 31st.
The rumors are that Penn State will be playing Michigan State, which makes for even more drama, because it reportedly came down to the Spartans or the Nittany Lions for the Gavin McKenna sweepstakes. The team also has Flyers 1st rounder Porter Martone, former 4th overall pick Cayden Lindstrom the top goalie in the country in Trey Augustine, amongst others.
Years ago people were very quick to rip on the Big Ten and how it is going to ruin college hockey, but it has done quiet the opposite, it has flooded the game of college hockey with marketing and money that it has never seen before, which is getting way more eyes on the game. Do we have all the same old school rivalries like we used to? No, we dont. But we do have Gavin McKenna announcing his commitment on Sportscenter during prime time. When is the last time primetime Sportscenter showed anything college hockey related? That is the Penn State effect. They have money and an alumni network that is one of the biggest in the country and that matters.
Gavin McKenna? A white out at Beaver Stadium? I think this season has the chance to change the direction of college hockey forever. So buckle in hockey fans.
