Congrats To Toronto Maple Leafs Fans, Who Forced Mitch Marner To Have Full-Time Security At His House For Two Weeks After The Playoffs
Most people don't realize this, but Canadians are what we could consider "closeted scumbags". The whole world operates under the notion that Canadians are the sweetest, most polite people on the planet. The type of people who you could punch in the face, and they'd apologize to you for their face getting in the way of your fist. That's who they pretend to be, but it's not who they truly are. It's like when a heinous murder happens and the news goes to interview the neighbors. They always say, "I never could have seen him doing anything like this", because they keep the monster hidden deep inside.
That monster comes out when we're dealing with the Toronto Maple Leafs. It's the one area of life where the Canadian people aren't afraid their true colors.
Here we have Mitch Marner. A hometown kid who grew up loving the Leafs. Just a kid from Markham who grew up playing youth hockey in Don Mills. He played his junior hockey in London. He gets drafted by the Leafs, and becomes one of the faces of the franchise. It's a dream for a guy like this to play for the Leafs, and I'm sure that dream always ended with him bringing the Cup back to Toronto for the first time since 1967. Unfortunately, he was never able to make that part of the dream into reality. But he probably wanted it just as much, if not more, than any other fan of the Leafs out there.
He's one of their own. You'd think the polite, kind-hearted people of Canada would be a little more supportive of one of their own guys trying to get the job done. But since the Leafs were one win short of beating the defending and reigning Stanley Cup Champs in the 2nd round, the people of Toronto repay Mitch Marner by blasting his address online. It's not enough to just boo the guy at the game and throw his jersey onto the ice. They need to put his address out there where his wife and newborn child live.
Luckily, Mitch Marner now gets to go live in Vegas where nobody will ever bother him outside of the rink. Most people won't even know who he is outside of the rink. Meanwhile, there's not a chance the Leafs have a successful year this season after they haven't done anything to replace losing Marner. So it'll be a brutal year in Toronto, nobody in the league with a family will want to sign there, and they'll go another lifetime without winning the Cup.
