People Are Saying That Bowling Green Falcons New Mascot 'Pudge The Cat', is "Quite Literally The Best Thing in College Football"
One thing about working at Barstool that I really don't exploit enough is the ability to shove stories about my small school alma mater, the Bowling Green Falcons, down everyone's gullets. I do it every now and then. However sometimes I think I should be abusing my power even more. But boy, oh boy, do I have one for your gullet today. I bet you thought Rico Bosco's "Bowling Green Returned a Kickoff" blog (see video up top) would be the only Bowling Green Falcons blog on Barstool Sports all weekend. But you would be so fucking wrong. Because the Bowling Green Falcons football team got themselves a cat.
Hear that everybody? Pudge The Cat is quite literally the best thing in college football so far this year. Thank you, Deadspin. I've always loved you guys. I've long said you have your finger on the pulse of the American sports scene better than anyone.
Now just in case there are any haters out there who see this story about Pudge The Cat, and feel inclined to say hurtful things like, "Who cares!", or "Fuck you!", or "This isn't news!".
Well tell that to Good Morning America.
If that's not enough, I bet you wouldn't question the integrity of CNN.
I don't know what's gotten into Bowling Green in the last year, but it seems like for the first time in my life, they finally "get it". Not that we haven't had some great teams in the past. But in the last year, it feels like we finally started embracing who we are as a MAC football program. As a MAC school, you're probably never going to compete for a National Championship. You're probably never going to have a top recruiting class in the nation. But you can do things like make fun and exciting hires in Eddie George. Someone who will bring a little juice and attention to the program.
Someone who will bring Urban Meyer to town to address Dave Portnoy.
And you can do things like have an adorable sideline Pudge The Cat, and be the only school in college football (I think) with an exotic shorthair on their sideline. Even if he makes our fun and exciting new hire Eddie George's entire head swell up.
Good stuff, Bowling Green. Way to take it to the always formidable Lafayette. I bet that felt good for Pudge to take down the Leopards.
Since this is Barstool Sports, beyond Pudge The Cat, I saw some encouraging things from Bowling Green last night. The offense could admittedly use a bit of work. But I'm sure Eddie George will make the necessary adjustments. He's got some weapons to work with. I saw a few players running with some pop. Our defense was as about as good as you can ask for vs an FCS opponent. And perhaps most importantly, we've got a kicker who went 4/4, and nailed a 56-yarder.

We might have our hands full at Cincinnati next weekend, but looking at Bowling Green's upcoming schedule, Pudge The Cat has an incredible opportunity to take down some enemies to start the season. He took care of the Leopards last night. He's got the Bearcats next weekend. Followed by two matchups vs birds – Liberty Flames (but their mascot is an eagle), and the Louisville Cardinals. Then we have our conference opener vs the Ohio Bobcats.

For any of those teams we play on the road (Cincinnati, Louisville, Ohio), I'm begging you to deny Pudge entry into your stadium. You don't want that public relations NIGHTMARE on your hands. The last thing any team in college football wants to face off against is a pissed off Bowling Green Falcons team, playing in a "This One's For Pudge" game.
