Electric Nebraska Releasing Alongside The Springsteen Biopic Is Every Bruce Fan's Dream (And Possible Reality?)
Absolutely CRIMINAL that we still have to wait two months for this masterpiece to come out. Jeremy Allen White didn’t utter a single word in this trailer and I’m absolutely ready to declare this the start of his Oscar campaign. I mean, Christ, he’s even got the handwriting down.
When you couple that with how absolutely on point his vocals sounded in the first trailer, I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to say that this is shaping up to be the movie of the year, decade, and maybe even century.
Not to mention that we’ve also got Jeremy Strong gracing the silver screen as Jon Landau, Bruce’s manager. He’s far better suited to play Landau than actually playing Bruce himself, but there’s part of me that really wishes he was the one playing Bruce just so we could see how method he would’ve gone for the role. Stone Pony performances? Springsteen cover band? I guess we’ll never know.
Honestly, the movie coming out might not even be the most important part of the movie coming out because there are also HEAVY rumors circulating that it’s also going to be the reason that we’re finally blessed with Electric Nebraska.
This is a record that’s been in the rumor mill for DECADES at this point. The story goes that Bruce had recorded stripped down demo versions of all of the songs that he wanted to have on Nebraska, and then brought them into the studio fully planning on recording with the full band for the album. Instead, he thought that the tracks would be best released in their demo versions without the band, thus creating the Nebraska album that we know today.
But, there’s ALWAYS been those whispers that an electric version of it was out there somewhere, just waiting to be released. Hell, even Max Weinberg and Roy Bittan have acknowledged it exists.
Flash forward to this June, and Bruce categorically denies any existence at all of the record. Or so he thought, a month later he decided to dig into the archives, only to realize that it DID in fact exist, with everything aside from My Father's House and State Trooper according to Rolling Stone.
Does it get any better than being a Bruce guy? This man is on the verge of 76 and he’s still the gift that keeps on giving year in and year out. I’d compare his longevity to someone like LeBron, Cristiano Ronaldo, or Tom Brady, but I’d be selling Bruce short with those comparisons. Greetings From Asbury Park came out FIFTY TWO (!!!) years ago.
Fifty two years on, and this is what his rap sheet has looked like over the past year:
Shows in the summer/fall of 2024 in Europe, the U.S., and Canada
Seven previously unreleased albums released for Tracks II
A movie centered around the making of Nebraska with Jeremy Allen White playing Bruce
Rocks all of Asbury Park into the ground for his homecoming concert on the beach
THIS IS NOT NORMAL
