"She Told Me I Have No Class, No Education, And To See What Happens When We Get Outside of the U.S. I'm Looking Forward To It" - American Taylor Townsend Wanted All The Smoke After Her Win Against Jelena Ostapenko At The US Open

We love us some US Open beef and today the women's side of the tournament delivered with American Taylor Townsend and Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko going at it.

Some context here. Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open champ, is a complete nut job.

She's ALWAYS complaining whether it's to her opponent, her coaching box, the fans, the umpire, or even the automatic lines calling system (a robot). She hits for great power, but is the ultimate head case. Taylor Townsend is the current number one women's doubles player in the world. She also has seen her singles game soar since coming back from pregnancy and is well-liked on the tour. She is viewed as one of the nicest people in the game. Obviously given that the US Open is in America, you can get an idea of who the crowd wanted to win this matchup —not the Latvian cry baby.

Townsend started off the match slow, but really put things into high gear towards the tail end of the first set. She went onto steal the opening frame and then dominate the 2nd set, cruising to a straight sets W. When they met at the net to shake hands the fireworks set off.

That's as close as you're going to get these days to tennis players brawling.

Would have been amazing if one of them actually swung.

So what actually was said? Taylor gave us the details in her post-match interview.

But what caused Jelena to say all of that? Well, Ostapenko took to Instagram to explain that Townsend not putting her hand up after winning a point where the net aided one of her balls is what enraged her.

There are some very stupid traditions/unwritten rules in sports. One of the worst has to be a tennis player feeling required to apologize for winning a point because there shot hit the net and fell over onto the opponent's side. Why is an apology needed for that? It's not like the player aimed for the tape on the net to barely win the point that way. It's all luck and it usually levels out to some degree. It's silly to actually apologize and even sillier to be upset that your opponent didn't apologize.

Side note: That dumb tradition did give us this epic shot of Carlos apologizing and then celebrating on Zverev the moment he looked away a few years ago after clipping the net. Challengers was a bad movie with one of the worst endings of all time, but the soundtrack set to this is great.

But back to this, that's an INSANE thing to get that upset over. You're really stewing on that after the match. A match you got your ass handed to you in, that you gotta confront your opponent and tell her she has no class or education? What a fucking loser. She's acting like the match actually came down to that one point and Townsend celebrated obnoxiously. None of that happened. You got mopped and you're upset you suck so you decided to take it out on Townsend. Simple as that. Penko gonna Penko. Can't wait for these two to face off again in the future.

P.S. The only tough part for Townsend is she was listing places she's beaten Ostapenko outside of the U.S. and listed New York. Obviously got caught up with her words as she was reeling from the moment, but still a funny slip up. Still nothing is worse than the IG story from Penko explaining herself anyways.
