I Am All In On This Fairfield Connecticut Team To Win The LLWS After The Defensive Clinic They Put On Tonight
This Fairfield Connecticut team has been so much fun this week. And I hate Connecticut, it’s nothing personal it’s just driving back and forth to college in Massachusetts it felt like no one livid in CT they just drove through and caused traffic. It’s a bugaboo I’ve been battling my whole life including KMS NYC 2 when we spent 5 hours in the car on the way to the game. But no traffic can keep me from rooting for this Fairfield team.
First it was Luca Pellegrini absolutely DEALING in the teams opening win with a complete game 1 hitter and 11 K’s over a VERY VERY VERY good Texas team.
And tonight they drew a VERY VERY good Hawaii team and in absolute JAMS back to back innings they were able to escape with limited damage in the 3rd and none in the 4th.
The 3rd inning play was phenomenal
And you HAD to think Hawaii couldn’t possibly get another guy tossed at the plate right ? WRONG…
And when you stay in the fight … things eventually break your way and that’s what they got in the 5th.
Shoutout John Rich with a great point about how effective a good catcher can be and how it seems like managers just throw away the position most times.
Also worth noting Hawaii’s catcher was excellent as well blocking passed balls that could have lead to runs.
First drawing a walk to tie the game 1-1, then a BIG Break with a single the 2nd baseman just couldn’t handle and they go up 3-1.
And Pellegrini , the hero from the first game, pours it on to extend to 5-1
Just GRINDING.
And the icing on the cake a BEAUTIFUL double play to end it.
Not the prettiest win but timely plays, being well coached and stepping up when needed. So much fun to watch. I’m officially all in on this team to win it. One of my favorites in a long time. Play the right way and should be an example for everyone watching hoping to love out their dream in Williamsport one day. Sure wish ESPN would make this type of play more of a feature instead of pounding “the fun in the cabins” and the “competitive ping pong games” they always do. This is the biggest stage of their lives and you are supposed to compete your hardest. Showcase the competition and right plays instead of all the happy horseshit.

Icing on the cake .., the manager for Hawaii was 11-0 with 2 titles … and this scrappy bunch just handed him his first loss.
Tough look for a guy to get 2 runners tossed at the dish in a close game but sometimes heart outweighs talent and that’s the story in Fairfield folks … see you for the next one !
