The Jimmy Abdo Show - Turning Into Golf's Cinderella At The US Amateur, Has His Hometown Club Going Nuts Watching Him Win On 18

You wanna talk about greatness throughout the history of the US Amateur? Recent winners include Viktor Hovland, Jose Luis Ballester (pissed in Rae's Creek), Bryson, Matt Fitzpatrick. Go back a little more and you get to Ben An, Ryan Moore, Edoardo Molinari, Matt Kuchar and, of course, Tiger Woods three times. So, yeah, this tournament is awesome. You go through stroke play, playoffs and then a 64 (perfect number) match play bracket.

I say all that to say we're starting in the quarterfinals today. John Daly II is there, which fucking rules. Mason Howell and Miles Russell made it, guys if you follow this sort of golf you know all about. And then there's Jimmy Abdo

You want to talk about UMBC over Virginia, FDU over Purdue? Yeah, well, this is a run to the quarterfinals from a 61 seed. A dude who had to grind through the playoffs just to get to that seeded portion of the tournament. He's also now 2 wins away from qualifying for The Masters.

Guess you can say the clutch gene is in the family

My point being, this event which typically has the best of the best and the biggest names fighting for the win has a guy who is an old school grinder. Ranked outside the top 4,000! D-3 golfer, dude just doesn't care. He has his hometown club going nuts for him

I love everything about this. The guy fought through the playoffs to become the 61 seed and made his run from there. I can't recommend enough that you should be watching today's matches if you can. You have a little bit of everything with big names, a Daly and Cinderella runs. I want nothing more than John Daly II vs Jimmy Abdo for the title. The whole setup is perfect, especially at Olympic Club. Right now it's the Jimmy Abdo show.
