Rory McIlroy Being The Only Player Skipping This Week's Playoff Event And Still Advancing To A Tour Championship Is One Of The Dumbest Things In All Of Golf

Alternate headline: PGA Tour is letting Rory McIlroy act like a bitch and/or pussy.

Because that's how it comes off. The fact that 70 guys in the entire world qualified to move from the regular season to the playoffs is an accomplishment. You had guys battle and grind to get there, barely miss the cut, whatever it might be:

And now you have Rory being the only golfer skipping the first playoff event. It's pathetic. I know you can't really compare team sports to an individual sport, but if any team did this you don't see them advancing to the next round. I'm also well-aware that the FedEx Cup Playoffs work differently. Top-70 play in this week's event. Top-50 in the season standings move onto next week and finally the top-30 go to the Tour Championship. Rory doesn't 'need' to play in this week's event to advance, but it just shows how dumb and flawed the playoff system is.

There's no ideal setup for golf, it's weighted points based on events, guys don't play every week, whatever. They need to adjust this. You can't be one of the top guys and be allowed to skip the first playoff event. It needs to be a legit injury or something along those lines. You skip because you don't want to play, schedule, etc then you give up your spot, that simple. Also aware how people don't really care about the playoffs, no one is going to say another golfer was better than Scottie if he doesn't win the Tour Championship. It's why I say we still need a bracketed event. You can do the playoffs here to get to 30 (or lower) and set up a match play bracket or some sort of bracketed event so people can get more invested.

Either way, pathetic move that as of right now Rory is the only one of the 70 skipping this week's event. We're supposed to be watching the best golfers on tour play the next 3 weeks.
