The 'We're With Colbert' Rally May Be Enough To Keep the Talk Show on the Air After an Incredible Crowd of 20 Protestors Showed Up
New York Post — A Big Apple rally in support of on-his-way-out “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert drew fewer than two dozen people Sunday — with even the NYPD cops on scene quickly calling it a day since most of the demonstrators left after just a few minutes.
Organizers said the “We’re With Colbert” gathering outside the CBS Broadcast Center on Manhattan’s West Side said it was meant to be part of a nationwide call for “integrity.”
“Our country is not perfect, never has been,” said the event’s organizer, who would only identify himself as Matt and said his nickname is Slim. “But we’ve always had the First Amendment, and now Mango Mussolini is trying to take that from us,” he said, referring to a derogatory nickname for President Trump.
After all the internet backlash and hullabaloo about Stephen Colbert's show being cancelled, it turns out there are about two dozen people of the 10 million that live in New York City who care enough to stand outside CBS's building for a little while. I believe Tommy Smokes had a larger crowd in Washington Square Park to watch him drink a Diet Coke.
It really is a shame that "Mango Mussolini" is destroying the First Amendment because CBS decided to cancel a show that was reportedly losing $40 million a year while also giving nearly a year of notice it was doing so. When will Trump stop this fascism?
Showing up to that protest had to be such a kick in the dick. You check to make sure you had the time right, wait 15 minutes past when the thing was supposed to start and then you finally have to reckon with the fact that you are one of only 20 people willing to spend a Sunday white knighting for Stephen Colbert. Truly brutal.
The good news for all of these people is they still have 10 more months to watch a show they clearly love so deeply, even if nobody else will. Enjoy Colbert while we still have his unrivaled comedy on late-night network television.
