WNBA Star Courtney Williams Chewed Out Diplo At The All-Star Game After Party Because “His EDM Music Sucked”

As everybody knows, the WNBA All Star Game took place Sunday night in Indianapolis.

A big post game party on a Sunday night isn’t easy. Especially in a city like Indy. Even if you are the white-hot WNBA. So they obviously brought in the big guns- Philladelphian, turned LA sellout, DJ Diplodocus. Aka Diplo.

You would think that would be enough to get the place poppin right?

Wrong.

Place was dead as a library. And Courtney Williams was having none of it. So she got in the DJ's ear and told him to play something she could dance to.

Fun fact- every DJ will deny it til they're blue in the face, but we all secretly LOVE when people drop this line. There's nothing that gets the juices flowing quite like it. It's like telling a chef "give me something I can eat". Or telling a bartender, "make me something to drink". Or telling a painter, "paint me something I can look at!".

It's vague. Mysterious. And directionless. But that's why it's beautiful and so appreciated. It leaves itself open to interpretation. Again, they'll never admit it to non-djs, but it gets a DJ rock hard when you challenge them with something like that.

Just look at how a pro's pro like Diplo reacted.

Diplo handled this impressively well. He chuckled to himself, and let it roll right off him. I guess that's one of the perks of a $200,000 payday for 90 minutes of work. You could tell me to eat shit and shove a hot poker up my ass, and as long as that check cleared, I'd be smiling ear to ear. But Diplo wasn't phased in the slightest. She had no clue who he was, and he had no clue who she was. There were mutually zero fucks given. And I think that's a beautiful thing. I've seen some guys throw tantrums and unplug their equipment, stop the party, pack up and leave. No joke. Legit take their ball and go home all because their ego was insulted. I would love to hear how the rest of this night, and the rest of his set went. So if Wes or his team is reading this, we'd love to have you on our redacted name podcast. Dante@BarstoolSports.com

P.s. - karma arrived early for these gals. Somebody caught this video as they tried to get into another spot after they left the Diplo party.

P.p.s.- was this party at Tiki Bob’s? My favorite bar in downtown Indy. Great dive. Shout out Tiki Bob’s.

P.p.p.s. - If it wasn’t apparent in the blog, I have a bone to pick with Diplo. Before we sold FWD earlier this year, I spent 6 years trying to book Diplo. Overbid on his asking price. Met all rider and travel demands. Yet could never get the fucking guy to ink a deal and commit. We won The EDM Award 2 out of the last 3 years for best residency lineups, yet couldn't get this guy to come play our venue. Yet he'll attend the WNBA All-Star Game after-party?

p.p.p.p.s. - real talk, 90% of DJs who don't have sticks jammed up their asses don't mind people making requests in a nightclub. There's just two rules. #1- it has to be good. You can't come up and ask for the current most popular song in the world. Obviously it's going to be played. And you can't ask for a song only you are going to know and enjoy. If you want that, throw yourself a bah mitzvah and book your uncle's buddy DJ Lenny. #2- be polite/respectful/normal. Kindness goes a long way, and dollar bills go even further. You'd be shocked how far a $20 will get you nowadays. NOBODY tips anymore so if you even slip a DJ a $5, as long as it's not going to let the air out of the room, you'll probably get what you ask for.

p.p.p.p.p.s. - off the top of my head, the three best tippers I ever came across in a club are -

#3- Vince Vaughn - used to come to this old late night spot in Chicago called "Stay" that was open on Fridays til 4am that I used to play at. He'd come up to the DJ booth, slip me a $50 bill, and ask me to play anything by The Gap Band. "You Dropped The Bomb On Me", and one of the best tracks ever, "Outstanding" always got the place going.

#2- Miley Cyrus - Was in Chicago with her team on an off night and came to Underground and had the table next to the DJ booth. Came in the booth and requested a ton of really good, slightly older, (mostly southern) hip hop all night. Loved what I played, so asked me to come play a few dates on her tour.

#1 - Freddie Freeman - he was with the Braves back then, but he'd come to Underground and give me an insane amount of money to play Alex Clare - Too Close. No joke one time he gave me $700 to play it and let him blast off the CO2 gun in the DJ booth. I would have happily let him for free but he insisted. Nicest guy ever.
