Proper Golf: The Open Took Away One Of The Dumb Advantages Players Use, Delivering Some Of The Nastiest Lies We've Seen At A Major

Hell yes, this right here is what fans have been asking for. I get tournament golf is unique because of all the stuff set up that's not typically on a course and legit one inch makes a world of difference for these guys. That said, the golfers get too much relief. That's one of the biggest complaints from fans who watch on a regular basis, where they get free relief after hitting a bad shot and next thing you know they are putting for birdie.

Not here.

This is how a drop zone should look. Like the tweet says, you want relief from the grandstand? Fine, go hit it off the bushes or Frankenstein's fat foot. You better not miss long and try to use that as an advantage, because we finally have some common sense here and penalizing these guys for missing. This isn't Oakmont or something like that, Lowry won Portrush in 2019 at -15, so scoring is there. But it's at least a start.

Links golf is different. Bobby Mac summed it up perfectly here:

I love links golf. I was lucky enough to go play 5 courses in Ireland last year (even in a boot) and they are easily 5 of my top-6 courses I've ever gotten to play (Ocean Course sneaking in the top-5 there). But Tralee? Greatest place on Earth. Old Head? It's a golfer's dream. Waterville, Dooks, you name it and it's unbelievable. But it's different, you have to miss in certain spots, the penalties are different, putting is different. That's why this week, combined with it being the oldest tournament in the world makes it such a great event.

Oh and we're already getting stuff like this:

Shout out the R&A for at least using common sense here. Can't wait for that 5am alarm tomorrow and more importantly can't wait for the first pissy golfer taking a drop here.
