The Bad Boy Of Golf: Oakmont Has Reportedly Banned Wyndham Clark From The Course After He Smashed A Locker During The US Open
You may remember this story from the US Open. Wyndham Clark went in and decided to go nuts on a locker room. Now, as we're less than 24 hours until the start of the Open we got this story coming out:
[Source] - Golf Digest has obtained a copy of the letter, which reads as follows from club president John Lynch:
“Several of you have inquired about the situation involving Wyndham Clark and the steps being taken in response to his recent behavior. Following multiple discussions with the USGA and the OCC Board, a decision has been made that Mr. Clark will no longer be permitted on OCC property.
"This decision will remain in effect unless formally reconsidered and approved by the Board.
"Reinstatement would be contingent upon Mr. Clark fulfilling a number of specific conditions, including full repayment for damages, a meaningful contribution to a charity of the Board's choosing, and the successful completion of counseling and/or anger management sessions.
Love it. Wyndham Clark has to embrace being the golf bad boy. I know it's frowned upon and most people don't enjoy watching him, but if he becomes the bad boy he might win some people back over. I want him to say you know what, I'm banned from Oakmont. Own it. They don't host the US Open again until 2033. Wait until 2033 to pay the fine and do anger management or whatever else the list is. Smart for Oakmont to say the charity of their choice, otherwise we'd be getting this from Wyndham:
This is where I laugh with golf though. It's a smashed locker, not the end of the world. 15-20 years ago we don't even hear of this story because we didn't have social media. Saying you're banning a guy for something every person who has played golf thought about doing is a hilarious move, just because of how stuffy it is. Don't get me wrong, Wyndham Clark just needed to apologize, pay the damages and move on.
Let me apologize, for the obligatory line here:
Gotta be the first suspension from a course in a long time. Golf's bad boy is here.
