Bruins Kick Off Free Agent Frenzy By... Trading For Vitkor Arvidsson
With a thin free agent market, Don Sweeney went out and grabbed Viktor Arvidsson from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a 5th round pick in 2027. Arvidsson was a salary cap casualty for Edmonton (Arvidsson waived his NTC), and the Bruins will take on his entire $4 million dollar cap hit (he has one year remaining on his deal). Would've preferred sending Korpisalo and his contract out to Edmonton instead of the pick but there's a reason why the Oilers have to shed cap so maybe that was denied.
I don't mind the pick up, especially since one of Ehlers/Boeser will be too expensive. Sturm is familiar with Arvidsson from his time as an Assistant Coach with the LAK too, but taking on all of his cap hit and doing the Oilers a favor isn't ideal. The Bruins have a little under $9 million to work with the rest of the day here.
Should be interesting to see if they find themselves in more trades today rather than free agent signings. Said earlier but Zacha, Korpisalo and maybe Mittlestadt could be trade bait. We'll see what happens.
