Arkansas's Gage Wood Throws the Third No-Hitter in College World Series History and Strikes Out NINETEEN Batters

Wow. Arkansas came into its game with Murray State on Monday with its back against the wall, needing to win its next four games to reach the College World Series finals. And all Gage Wood did was take the mound and throw 119 pitches, strike out 19 and not allow a base hit. The only base runner Wood allowed was a hit batter in the 8th inning.

That's just one of the best pitching performances you're ever going to see. Murray State had been one of the best offenses in the NCAA Tournament this year, scoring double-digit runs in three of its eight games before today — and eight and nine runs in two other games — and Wood made the Racers look like a Little League team. Lost in the unreal performance, too, is that Wood saved the Razorbacks' bullpen and made coming out of the losers' bracket a little more feasible. The Hogs needed a solid, long outing, so Wood just went out there and struck out 19 of the 28 batters he faced and didn't allow any of them to get a hit.

I absolutely love Wood's answer when asked about his performance after the game, too. He was mad he hadn't thrown a perfect game.

What a performance. Take a bow, young man.
