Arizona CF Aaron Walton Made Two of the Best Catches You're Going To See in Back-To-Back At-Bats

Things haven't gone well for Arizona so far in Game 1 of the Wildcats' Super Regional against North Carolina, but Aaron Walton is still out there in center field playing like every out is to win the College World Series — which he needs to do, because Arizona's pitching staff is inviting every UNC hitter to smack the piss out of the baseball. Either one of those catches would generally be unrivaled in a series and Walton made both of them just a few pitches apart.

The home run robbery is an objectively more impressive catch, but what I appreciate most about this entire sequence is that the diving catch was actually necessary. So many guys now dive needlessly so they can have a TikTok clip instead of just making a routine catch, but Walton truly had to lay out and looked like he nearly broke his wrist making that play. We need to make diving catches meaningful again.
