'I Don't Deserve To Win It' - Joel Dahmen Gave A Brutally Honest Interview After Missing A 2-Footer On 17, Choking Away A Tournament Win
We had a weird weekend with two PGA events going on this past weekend. You had the signature RBC Heritage in South Carolina with Justin Thomas finally getting a win:
Then in the Dominican Republic you had the Corales Championship. Dahmen actually set the course record on Thursday
Then Sunday happened. He finished bogey-bogey-bogey, lost by 1 and gave one of the most brutally honest interviews a golfer can give. He didn't hide from the media, he didn't run like we've seen others. He stood there, said he was in shock and that he didn't deserve to win it. Why? This is the missed putt on 17
Just brutal no matter how you look at it. I think Dahmen won a lot of people over with his appearances on Full Swing. You could see him battling some of the mental side of the game, falling off and trying to battle back. He's been better this year, but with a chance to get a win he just fell apart. It happens in golf, obviously, but you rarely see that 2-footer missed, especially on 17. And, yeah, credit goes to Garrick Higgo for winning:
But the story is Dahmen. He also showed that you can do interviews and not have to fight the media after you blow a lead and lose a tournament. He didn't have to sit there and talk about it, you can see him still in shock. But it was one of the more honest interviews we'll get from the golf world. Brutal all the way around.
