The New Normal: Baylor Has To Replace Its Entire Basketball Team, Every Single Person On The Roster From Last Season Left The School
I know people like to bitch about mid-majors losing players all the time, because it's easy to do. But here we are looking at Baylor, a team who won a title in 2021, a team who made the Tournament, they have to replace every single person on the roster. 9 of the 14 are in the transfer portal. This is why the transfer portal is stupid. No one is arguing that players don't deserve the same sort of stuff as regular college kids, but there's gotta be some sort of regulation here.
To me, again, it's very simple. Every player gets one free transfer. After that you have to sit out a year if you transfer again unless your coach leaves or you're a grad transfer. If you graduate and have a year of eligibility, you're good to transfer just like how it used to be. Your coach leaves, you can leave. Otherwise, you get this:
I will never blame these kids for getting an absurd of money. Any person with a brain would do the same thing. But there's too much movement every single year. You can't have year-to-year free agency in college sports. It's all the NCAA's fault. All they had to do was be somewhat smart when it came to the future instead of sitting around and letting lawsuits dictate everything. Is some of the free agency period fun as a fan? Yeah, you buy into all the rumors. But to have it every year with an entire roster is absurd. And don't get me wrong, NIL is good for the sport. It's how you get Braden Smith and JT Toppin to stick around:
Losing all 14 players on the roster though? What good is that? This is a major program too. Just the new normal that needs new rules.
