I'm Strictly Going With My Gut For Today's Gambling Picks

Jesus Christ, man. Look, there's something people at this company that you look for for gambling advice. I am not one of those people. Am I the worst gambler at Barstool? Maybe. Am I going to quit? Absolutely not. Scared money don't make money. It's difficult to find a system that works when every system you have used up to this point has been a complete and utter failure. There is one issue I've noticed, I'm paying too much attention to the numbers. I'm an analytics guy, but humans still play the game. I need to be aware of that fact. Fuck the numbers. Go with your gut. So with that said, let's look at today's picks.

Giants -1.5 (+110) against the Reds

This is pretty good value for a favorite. Look, I hate to say Klemmer was right, but Klemmer might've been kind of right about the Reds. They have a fun, young core that played out of their minds for a month, but they're coming off of a series in which they got swept by their divisional rival the Brewers, and now they're facing a team that's been arguably the best in baseball since the first month of the season. Logan Webb is on the mound for the Giants. He threw a complete game shutout against the Rockies in his last outing. He'll be facing an unproven commodity in Brandon Williamson. The Reds bats went ice cold in their most recent series. Having to face Logan Webb after getting swept is not a recipe for success.

Rangers ML (Even) against the Rays

Shane McClanahan in back for Tampa Bay tonight. That will be a welcome sight for Rays fans. McClanahan may have the nastiest stuff of any pitcher in the American League. Still, I'm unsure how he'll fair against a dominant Rangers lineup, especially considering he'll probably be on a shorter leash than usual. I'm trying to go with my gut today, and I'm just not feeling great about the Rays right now. They're still a great team, but I'm underwhelmed by how they've looked over the last month or so. And now there is actual pressure on them. They're only a game up on the Orioles in the AL East standings. This should be a tremendous series between two teams that are still clinging to first place, but I think the Rangers will draw first blood.

Dodgers/Orioles over 9.5 (-105)

Grayson Rodriguez returns to the mound for the Orioles tonight after spending some time down in Triple-A. His minor-league numbers have been nothing short of dazzling. He has the stuff to be a great Major League pitcher, but his ERA at the big league level this year has been above seven, and tonight he has the luxury of facing a lineup with multiple All-Stars on it. The Dodgers have another rookie going in Emmet Sheehan. Much like Rodriguez, he is a hard-throwing right-hander with the stuff to make it in the movies, but he's very much unproven and facing the hottest team in baseball. There is a part of me that wants to go with the Orioles on the money line, but I need to see more out of Rodriguez before I can fully trust him from a gambling standpoint. As good as both of these teams are, they will need to bolster their rotations come trade deadline time. I expect some fireworks tonight.
