The Juice Is Not Worth The Squeeze: An Orange Shortage Is Causing OJ Prices To Soar To Record Heights

NBC News- Florida's orange crop production will likely plummet to record lows this season thanks to Hurricane Ian, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Wednesday. That assessment compounds an already weak citrus production situation in the state.
The upshot: The price of orange juice, which has already climbed to an all-time high of $2.90 per 12-ounce can because of soaring food inflation, could go even higher.
The USDA's forecast said 28 million boxes of Florida oranges would be produced in the 2022-23 season. That would be the lowest output since 1943 and down 32% from last year's already low production of approximately 41 million boxes.
People call me many things. Idiot, moron, asshole. They used to call me a college basketball podcaster but that's done. On good days they call me funny, on bad days they call me much worse. One thing even I didn't expect to call myself was an economist.
If you follow the social accounts on Barstool , you may have seen me on the DPS show where I stated juice prices were getting out of hand. Most people chalked that up as an off the cuff comment. Well, look at the news. Juice prices are in fact out of control!
Who would have thought I was so in tune with the economy?
Makes you think, if juice costs are soaring, the cost of living is soaring, will the working class be able to survive without a raise?
