Don Mattingly Made Trevor Rogers Think He Was Being Sent Down Before Telling Him He Made the All-Star Team

I'm a sucker for videos like this. Walk-ons getting put on scholarship, rookies finding out they've been named to the All-Star team, give me all of that shit. It is unfortunate this video made me feel like Don Mattingly might not be a piece of shit for two minutes, though.

I do have several questions, though. So Mattingly tells Trevor Rogers they're going to send him down to Triple-A before the All-Star break to "control (his) innings through the course of the year." Did Rogers actually believe that nonsense? He has a 2.14 ERA. He's running away with the NL Rookie of the Year award and would be in Cy Young contention if Jacob deGrom was human.

Also, I think Rogers didn't really get excited when he found out he was an All-Star because he was still processing the fact he thougt he was being sent down to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp after carving up big league lineups all season. It actually gave me some big Michael Scott energy, even though I know what Mattingly was going for.

Regardless of how he found out, congrats to Trevor on being an All-Star in his first full season in the Majors. He's been awesome all season.
