A Never Before Seen Genesis Concert From 1973 Randomly Surfaced on YouTube in Stunning 4K Quality. It’s The First Visible Video of a Peter Gabriel Era Show Seen By The Public Ever

Rolling Stone - A film of the January 10th, 1973 Genesis concert at the Bataclan in Paris, France has circulated within the fan community for years, but the good folks at the Genesis Museum recently shared a 4K restoration that is a stunning improvement over anything seen before. Simply put, it’s the most pristine video of a Peter Gabriel-era show that has ever surfaced.

“This was a really big project,” the Genesis Museum noted on YouTube. “Not that the source was bad; the source was actually very nice. However, the source had many anomalies, but enough ‘clay’ was there to mold this into something even better. The entire process was helped immensely by Ikhnaton, [the user name of the person who uploaded the concert], who provided material as well as suggestions and many many previews.”

Sadly, the concert is incomplete. The only full song is “The Musical Box,” and even that features a brief audio patch from the 1973 LP Genesis Live since sound was missing from the beginning of the recording. It is followed by the first half of “Supper’s Ready” and large chunks of “Return of the Giant Hogweed” and “The Knife.” It ends with a backstage interview that is difficult to hear because a narrator translates their words into French.

Few things here. First off, Genesis fucks very very hard. Deep and slow.

(God what a banger "Invisible Touch" is.)

Secondly, this is a giant kick in the dick that they couldn't restore the entire concert. I wanna say I love you Genesis Museum but what the fuck? Figure it out.

It's pretty insane that back when all these incredible bands and artists were touring the world playing songs that would stand the test of time, it never really occurred to anybody they should be filming everything for posterity.

And when they did film, maybe they should have splurged for the movie studio reel to reel cameras instead of the Zapruder.

Maybe all the sheeple that go to concerts today and watch every minute of the show through their cell phone screens are onto something?

Nevertheless, I am all for this kind of film/audio restoration. I dream for a day the most brilliant humans are a̶b̶l̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶r̶e̶v̶e̶r̶s̶e̶ ̶e̶n̶g̶i̶n̶e̶e̶r̶ ̶a̶l̶i̶e̶n̶ ̶t̶e̶c̶h̶n̶o̶l̶o̶g̶y̶ able to figure out a way to restore old Motown recordings and bring to life sonically the best music ever recorded. Not in mono.

I actually did a Watch This When You're High on how they upconvert old film into 4k. It's pretty mind boggling if you're into nerd stuff like that.

p.s.- is there a more disrespected artist than Phil Collins? Ever? Guy is just an absolute hit making machine and I feel like he's gotten dragged through the mud for as long as I can remember, especially recently, and nobody really has his back. Well that changes today. You don't like Phil Collings? Then fuck you.

p.p.s. - if "Easy Lover" doesn't get you moving you don't have a rhythmic bone in your body and you might actually be dead.
