Jared Leto is Coming Back to Play the Joker in the Snyder Cut of 'Justice League'

The Hollywood Reporter - Zack Snyder’s new Justice League cut is getting some killer laughs.

Jared Leto, who played classic DC villain The Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad, has joined the additional photography shooting for the “Snyder Cut,” the filmmaker’s definitive version of the 2017 superhero movie he was forced to exit and he never saw through completion, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The project, officially titled Zack Snyder's Justice League, is being overseen by HBO Max, which is financing the new round of shooting and the completion of the many unfinished scenes, and will air as a four-episode event series next year.

Shooting is currently underway with Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher, and Amber Heard among those involved on top of Leto.

As I've said before, I'm intrigued by the idea that HBO Max is allowing Zack Snyder to complete his original version of DC's "The Justice League." Meaning the story he envisioned telling before he suffered a terrible family tragedy in the middle of production and had to leave the project. Only to have the studio finish it with Josh Wheedon instead. And the result was a disjointed mess, with changing tones and a narrative that didn't make sense. The movie version of the adage that a camel is a horse built by a committee. So yeah, I'm on board with seeing what the original director had in mind. 

That is, until now. 

You know the quickest way to ruin something that nerds worldwide want to see and turn them off to your project? Hire Jared Leto to reprise his role as Joker. And it's exactly what Snyder is doing. It's like he wants the movie to fail. 

Few things in this world are objective truths. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and tastes vary. But there are some matters of subjectivity that are unanimous, and this is one. You can have your favorite Batman portrayal. You can have your favorite Joker. Two actors have won Oscars playing him but I wouldn't argue with anyone who says Jack Nicholson was better. Or Cesar Romero, for that matter. But there is no living, breathing human being who doesn't agree Jared Leto was the absolute worst. Even Jared Leto's mom has to agree that her son was an odd choice who gave a bizarre, scenery chewing embarrassment of a performance.

This is such a terrible decision that it almost defies comparison. I mean, where do you go with this? It's like the Raiders redrafting Jamarcus Russell. It's as if the Red Sox rehired Bobby Valentine or the Celtics reinstating Rick Pitino as team president. Or to put in it movie casting terms, it's as if a studio announced Kevin Costner is reprising his role as the title character in "Robin Hood II: The Return of the Inconsistent British Accent." Like they could've literally hired any other actor to play Joker. Kevin James. Kevin Hart. Danny Devito. Peter Dinklage. Betty White. Anyone. And we'd be more interested, just to see where they'd go with their interpretation. This weirdo has already demonstrated how he does it. And we. Do. Not. Want. 

Christ, Hollywood. Get it together. You might as well just make another "CATS."
