RIP 'Drunk History'

Damn it. Comedy Central announced Thursday it would be canceling Drunk History, because apparently we just can't have anything that brings people even fleeting moments of joy anymore.

The show had been scheduled for a seventh season before COVID-19 hit and after being delayed for a while, Comedy Central decided to go ahead and end the show after six seasons.

I don't know how many people sat down every week to watch Drunk History, but it was the perfect show to live in the age of social media and streaming services, because anytime there was something great on there, you'd see it on Twitter or YouTube. I have a feeling there will be kids who re-discover this show years down the line, much like what has happened to shows like The Office.

In an age when good, original content is still difficult to find even with how many outlets there are now to create it, this show was genuinely funny and enjoyable. Sometimes the simplest ideas — like getting celebrities drunk and having them recall historical events on camera — turn out to be the best.

Drunk History was just good. Sometimes I think that's the best thing you can say about something or someone. It will be missed.
