Would You Quit Your Job To Make $100,000 Per Year At A Taco Bell?

Source - Wanted: Restaurant manager. Competitive salary: $100,000. The six-figure sum is not being offered at a haute cuisine location with culinary accolades, but at fast-food chain Taco Bell. Amid an increasingly tough U.S. labor market, the company is betting a higher salary will help it attract workers and keep them on the team.

The Yum! Brands Inc.-owned chain will test the higher salary in select restaurants in the U.S. Midwest and Northeast, and will also try a new role for employees who want leadership experience but don’t want to be in the management position. Current salaries for general managers at company-owned Taco Bell stores are between $50,000 and $80,000, according to the company.

Taco Bell on Thursday also announced plans to make all of its customer packaging recyclable, compostable or reusable by 2025. 

So this story has been floating around the internet a few days. One-hundred-THOUSAND dollars per year to manage a Taco Bell. They’re “testing the salary” in select restaurants, but something tells me they’re going to keep it. What are they going to do, pay people more then take it away? That’s not how it works. Regardless, this article begs the question- If you were offered one-hundred-thousand-dollars per year to manage a Taco Bell, would you do it? Personally, no. I like what I have going on here at Barstool. Two-hundred-thousand and we can have a conversation, but anything less and I’m keeping my gig.

Having said that, if this were five years ago and I was sitting at a cube ready to put a gun in my mouth, I would absolutely quit my job to work at a Taco Bell. $100,000 goes a long way just about everywhere other than New York City. Think about how great that would be? Just shutting your brain off for the rest of your life, making tacos, and earning a decent living while doing it? You could show up to work high, drunk, it wouldn’t matter as long as you know how to work the sour cream gun. Which for the record looks like a blast.

That’s not to say there wouldn’t be downsides because there would. For starters, your entire clientele is hammered. No one eats Taco Bell sober and if they do it’s a cry for help. Second, and I don’t mean to sounds like a dick, but the people you’d be managing would be, how do I say this…unique? *See above video. They would also hate your guts if they knew how much money you made. Then there’s the stigma. It doesn’t matter what your salary is, working at a Taco Bell is working at a Taco Bell.

But if you want to do it, do it.  I’m not here to judge. You can laugh all the way to the bank and I’ll sit here like an idiot. Best of luck to all the applicants. I have a feeling the hiring process is going to be pretty competitive.
